Step 1) Put the cartridge on some paper towels in an area where you can tolerate a spill.
Step 2) Locate the ink exit hole(s) on the bottom of the cartridge.
Step 3) Remove the old black rubber plug from the ink exit hole by peeling it out with a knife.
Step 4) Insert a new plug into the hole. These plugs can be purchased from Ink Refill R Us. See below for ordering information. Alternatively, you can use black electrical tape to seal the hole, but it is not as effective.
Step 5) Drill a #55 or 1/16 inch (1.5mm) hole at the location of each of the vent holes. These holes are located above the Epson logo on the front of the cartridge, and there is one hole for each color.
Step 6) From left to right, the color chambers should be Magenta, Cyan, Yellow. Verify this by inserting a toothpick into the holes you just drilled and withdrawing the toothpick to determine the ink color.
Step 7) Tape over the holes which you are not currently re-filling to prevent contamination from accidental ink spills.
Step 8) Fill your syringe bottle 2/3rd full (about 20 ml) for black, or 1/3rd full (about 10-12 ml) for the color inks.
Step 9) Using the syringe bottle, very S-L-O-W-L-Y inject the ink so that it flows into the ink tank. Be sure that the needle goes deep into the cartridge below the sponge.
Remove and re-inject the needle several times so that different areas of the sponge are exposed to the ink. If you inject too quickly, you may cause air bubbles to form in the foam, which can cause a vapor lock type of condition.
Step 10) On most of these cartridges you can see the reservoir fill. Repeat for the other colors.
Step 11) Tape over all vent holes and air channels with electrical tape to prevent leaking during storage and transportation.
Step 12) Set above a paper towel for an hour as a drip precaution. Remove the tape just before you print.
